Clinic Renovation

 Here are a few pictures from the clinic renovation work.  We would really like to ask for your special prayers for this project.  There has been a lot of problems, corruption, and poor management, and at one point it looked like we could be left with no clinic buildings at all.  We thank the Lord for intervening, and things are moving along again.  The buildings in these pictures are all "support buildings."  They have not started building the actual clinic yet.  Please keep praying!

Here the builders are taking down the scaffold from around one the the nurses' houses.  Two hours after I took this pictures, they had the roof on.  

The small buildings in the foreground are for "waiting mothers," TB patients, etc.  

This picture is taking from the other side of the clinic property from where the first two pictures were taken.  The clinic building will be between this foundations and the little house at the left of the picture.  I think they are planning to double the floor space from what we used to have.  

This is the house that was built on the foundation in the last picture.  The masons finished laying the brick and I suppose they will put the roof on this week.

Three Months Later

It's been a very busy three months, and our blog has been sadly neglected!  Here's a little update to give you some idea of the things we have been doing.

For me (Glenn), the main thing has been trying to get my masters' degree finished up.  Today I start the next to the last class.  I've really enjoyed all the classes, but it has been a challenge to fit everything into an already fairly busy schedule.  Besides studying and other ministries, I'm still helping the Lesotho Theological Education by Extension committee to translate and publish a curriculum in Sesotho for pastors and lay people.  We are using this curriculum in our Bibles Schools both in Lesotho and South Africa.

Last weekend Steph helped with a workshop for Sunday School teachers and people involved in children's ministry here in Lesotho.  She presented a session on "Building God's Kingdom through Children's Ministry."  The workshop went well, and I think those who attended were encouraged and edified.

Kaitlyn is doing well in second grade.  She's a quick learner, so that makes things go fairly well.  She loves to read and play with her friends.  Kristell has started preschool--colors, shapes, folding, coloring, etc.  The last few weeks she has been learning letters and sounds.  She is SO excited when she sees a letter she knows on a sign as we are driving!  On Friday's Steph usually tries to do extra-curricular activities like music, cooking, etc.  As you can see, the girls enjoy that a lot!

Your Tax Dollars At Work

Matukeng Health Centre, the clinic where we live is in the process of being renovated.  

Originally, the plan was to reuse some of the existing buildings and walls and just re-roof and renovate everything inside.  As the work progressed, inspectors decided that none of the existing buildings were up to standard, so they should all be torn down.  The work is being paid for by the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a foreign aid agency sponsored by the USA. 

The building on the left with the roof is being used as office and storage space.  It will eventually be torn down, too.  The three brick buildings are for TB patients, mothers who are waiting to give birth, etc.

This view is from our old driveway.  The gate has been closed off with razor wire now, so we have to drive through the edge of our neighbor's corn field to get to our house.  We think eventually a road will be opened again from the clinic side, but no one knows for sure.

Lesotho Update

Dear Praying Friends,

I'm trying to get back on schedule of sending out these Lesotho Updates. Since not much time has passed since the last one, this one will be short. We want you to know that we feel your prayers and appreciate every one of you!

Praise:

• Rev. Kali Nthabi reported a very good service yesterday at Ha Motheho. It was the last cultural celebration of the wedding that took place there back in September, so a lot of village people came. Two people got saved!

Prayer:

• Please continue praying for Mr. Grant's upcoming visit to Africa and especially the pastors' retreat next weekend.
• Remember Hope Christian Academy as you pray. The end-of-the-year program is the first Thursday of December. Please also pray for staff!
• Keep praying for revival!

Trip to America

We spent a wonderful month in October/November with our families in America.  The main reason for this visit was Joe and Fernanda's wedding, but we were also able to spend time with my (Glenn's) family.  Here are a few pictures.

Stephanie's youngest brother, Joe, married Fernanda Rodriguez in Lewsiburg, PA.

We spent a few days in Louisiana with my brother.  Daddy, Mama, and Joy also came down from Colorado.  We spent a couple nights in a cabin on the Gulf of Mexico.

Kaitlyn and Kristell helped Grandpa Stratton celebrate his birthday in Kansas.
