Lesotho Update

Dear Praying Friends,
We are so very grateful for your faithful prayer support while I was in Zambia, and Stephanie and the girls stayed here at home.  Click here for a short report of the trip.
Praise:

• The Bible distribution trip to Zambia went very well.  During the two weeks we were in Chipata, Zamiba, we sold 4000 Bibles.  We also praise God for protection on the road and that we experienced no mechanical problems!  
• While I was in Zambia, Stephanie and the ladies here at Matukeng held a VBS.  It was very well attended--some days 120 children showed up.  We believe that the Gospel is gradually penetrating some families starting with the children.  
• Praise the Lord for supplying some part-time staff for Hope Christian Academy.  Joreth van der Merwe (daugther of Johan and Hessie van der Merwe, HIM missionaries in South Africa) joined the staff as a part-time monitor.  

Prayer:

• Please continue to pray for qualified, full-time staff for the academy.  Also pray for the current staff.  They are carrying a heavy load.
• Please pray for the students at Hope Christian Academy.  Some of them are experiencing spiritual oppression.  Pray that they and their familes will be born again!  Praise God that some of the children are seeking the Lord.
• We are hosting two interns from Allegheny Wesleyan College--Rebekah Taylor and Rosalie Martin.  Please pray for them as they further their studies towards a missions degree.  Also pray that lives will be changed through their ministry here!

Bibles for the Nations Report

On the 13th of July, I (Glenn) left for Zambia with Jon Stratton, Rev. Kali Nthabi, and Rev. Thabang Khasipe.  We picked up Rosalie Martin and Rebekah Taylor at the airport in Johannesburg.  They are missionary interns from Allegheny Wesleyan College in OH.  They will be spending six weeks with us.  In this picture we are crossing the Zambezi River by pontoon boat at Kazungula on the border between Botswana and Zimbabwe.

After four LONG days of driving, we arrived in Chipata, Zambia (red circle) right near the border of Malawi.   For a bigger map of Zambia, click here.  We joined Pieter and Hester Marais (HIM missionaries) there to sell Chichewa and English Bibles.  There was also another team from Ladybrand, South Africa there helping part of the time.

While we were in Chipata, we sold around 4000 Bibles at about $6 each.  This price was considered fair and affordable by the local people.  Some of us staffed make-shift stands from the back of our vehicles.  Others walked through the markets and busy streets selling Bibles from a backpack.  The response to our work was very positive.  The need for Bibles and solid Bible teaching in this area is very great as many Muslims are moving into the area. 

One Sunday I was invited to preach at Glorious Hope Baptist Church.  We felt very welcome and people listened attentively as I spoke about true faith.

On the way back, some of the team visited Victoria Falls near Livingstone, Zambia.  The level of the Zambezi was quite low, so it was not as spectacular as during the flood season.  Just the same, it is awe-inspiring, and the lower water level makes for less mist so that one can actually see better.

On the way back home through Botswana, we saw two female lions crossing the highway.  What an unexpected treat!

Adventures in Cape Town

Recently we attended our fellow missionary Jeremy Howard's wedding in Cape Town and also took a few days of vacation to see the scenery and history of that part of South Africa.  Here are a few pictures:

Dawn in the Karoo (a semi desert area between Lesotho and Cape Town).

The bitter aloes were in full bloom through the Karoo.  They are very pretty in this arid landscape!

Table Mountain

Simon's Town is a little harbor village built on the side of a mountain.  It is the third oldest European settlement in South Africa.  Many of the buildings date back into the 1700's.

Because of the steep mountain side that Simon's Town is built on, many of the houses do not have road access.  You park your car and climb the steps!

We climbed up to the lighthouse at Cape Point.

In 1911 a new lighthouse was built lower down on the cliff because this one was up in the clouds during storms. 

The view down 800+ foot cliffs from the lighthouse to the ocean was breathtaking!

Katilyn enjoyed building this sand castle with Uncle Jon's help.

Kristell enjoyed playing in the sand, too.

One day we drove to Stellenbosch.  This is the Dutch Reformed Church there.

Lesotho Update

 Dear Praying Friends,

Please join us in praising God for the answers to prayer below.  These are very encouraging to us!  Thank you for your faithfulness in bringing these requests to God!

Praise:

• We are so grateful to the Lord for complete deliverance from the enemy oppression our team was experiencing!  Thank you so much to everyone who prayed for us during this difficult time!
• Praise the Lord for giving Lesotho the first peaceful, democratic transition of political power in history!  All except one of the other parties in the country joined a coalition to put the former ruling party out of power.  The man who has been prime minister for 15 years gracefully stepped down, and his party is participating in the new government as the opposition party instead of the ruling party even though they received many more votes than any of the other parties.  If you have any knowledge of African politics, you will see that this is clearly God at work!

Prayer:

• Please pray much for the Marais'.  They are in the Western Province of Zambia distributing Bibles among the Lozi people.  The flood waters on the Zambezi river still have not receded, so they had to travel an extra 750 miles to get to these areas where Bibles are needed!
• Please continue to pray much for the school in Ladybrand, South Africa.  We are still in need of teachers!
• The congregation at Matukeng has been getting involved in servant evangelism.  People from the church have been volunteering their time to our neighbors to help them harvest their corn (by hand of course).  They have had some excellent opportunities to witness as they work.  Please pray that people will get saved!
• As you pray, remember that faith is not a feeling.  It is built on the foundation of knowing God.  Our faith will be in proportion to how intimately we know God.

Bibles For Africa

Yesterday I received a text message from Uncle Piet and Aunt Hester Marais.  They are in Katima Molilu, Namibia waiting for the rest of the shipment of Bibles they are expecting.  As soon as it arrives, they are planning to cross into Zamiba to distribute Lozi Bibles.

Use these pictures to help you pray:

Please pray for the availability of Bibles.  Several languages are out of print or unavailable for other reasons.  Particularly pray for Bemba Bibles!

Please pray for the timely shipment of Bibles.  We particularly need prayer with regards to Tonga Bibles for the Central Province of Zambia!

Pray that God would protect our vehicles and keep them running reliably!

Please pray for safety on the road!
